About Me

Hello! I’m Cory. I’m a conductor, pianist, singer, and all-around music nerd who believes in the power of singing together. For me, making music is about creating belonging, sparking joy, and telling stories of our shared humanity. I get to do that every day as Artistic Director of One Voice Chorus in Charlotte, NC, where I work with an amazing community of LGBTQ+ singers and allies.

I especially love modern choral music that dives into identity and those in-between spaces where joy and grief, clarity and contradiction all live side by side. In rehearsals, my goal is to make a space where singers can take risks, laugh a lot, and be fully themselves.

Outside the podium, I’ve spent a lot of time in nonprofit work and arts advocacy. I hold a DMA in Choral Conducting, but honestly, the piece of paper matters less to me than the belief that group singing is for everyone. At its best, it’s a radical act of unity and of working together to achieve a common goal. It brings people together, builds empathy, and can truly change lives.

To send light into the darkness of men’s hearts – such is the duty of the artist.

-Robert Schumann
