When I was ten years old, I wrote a poem about the moon. After college, I was looking around for poetry to set to music, and I ended up finding it again. I updated the lyrics and wrote an SAB choral setting.
Lunar glow on a gleaming lake,
Sleeping kids it dares not wake.Fishes peer at its silver strands
Flowing, writhing like marching bands.Moon’s eye catches a flying dove,
A gleam, a glimmer, a shiny white glove.Pearly face turns toward a lover’s embrace,
Its heart does a flip in the dark void of space.White light linen covers kids in bed,
And through a bright dream world they are led.Silver fingers stroke a crumbling bench.
A touch which will the moon’s thirst quench. The lonely moon lives like you and me,
Take a look, and you shall see.
